Default Well done to Strasbourg FC

Strasbourg, French league champions in 1979, are about to win promotion back to Ligue 1 in France after being demoted to the 5th tier of French football in 2011 after some dodgy owners ran the club into the ground and caused liquidation (sound familiar?)

I always liked Strasbourg when I was a young and remember being quite pleased when we drew them in the Uefa cup in 1997, not so pleased about the result though. But a couple of their fans bought a round of drinks for us after the 2nd leg and were quite adamant that Ibrox was the best atmosphere they'd ever heard at a football match. Good club, good fans. Well done.

I smashed my specs when Gattuso scored against them at Ibrox.

My dad was running around daft trying to pick up the pieces whilst I was celebrating with the guy beside me.

I still feel a bit guilty about that.

    End of my Strasbourg input.

If it is the same game I am thinking of, I was working as a steward in the Copland Rear at the time and had to escort one of the concession girls out, along the side of the park, down the tunnel and through the main stand after the game. Could hear their players celebrating as if they had won the CL.

The top six in that league all had a chance of winning the league going into the last game tonight!

Have they been getting harassed by rival fans since 2011 claiming they pure died and calling them by their holding company's name?

2-0 ahead after 44 minutes. Looks like they are going up as champions.

Some fabulous players graced the stage at Strasbourg over the years. Domenech, Leboef, Djorkaeff and Sauzee amongst them.

They also had the best named goalie ever to play the game: Domenic Dropsy!!

We played them the same year the beggars drew with Liverpool home and away and went out on away goals, the tarriers then tried to say we were disgraced by going out to Strasbourg.

Who did Liverpool then draw in the next round? Yep Strasbourg and were scudded 3-0 in france, not another peep from that lot.

Still just half time but they're 2 up. Hope they see it out. I think they had to ditch the RC bit after the liquidation. Still the same club though, same year of foundation .

Daily Rhecord slaughtered us for going out to them, French also rans etc etc.
Turn the page and the draw for the next round paired Liverpool with "French cracks Strasbourg "🤔

I see the French League pages correctly have them as being founded in 1906. I wonder if there are demented fans in France banging on 6 years later about them being a "new club", "the old club died" etc. Then again, they probably don't have the same bigoted obsessed hate-filled freaks that we do in Scotland who refuse to accept reality where it doesn't suit their agenda.

Some team - Amiens - just leaped from 6th position to 2nd and automatic promotion there with a 96min winner. Mental how tight that league was

Troyes came from 2-0 down at HT to win 3-2 at Sochaux to snatch the play off place too.
    If anyone's interested😄

I'd imagine both they and especially Lens were just a wee bit scunnered with this tho!

That Amiens result was unreal, Edu vs the scum kind of.

95th minute goal which secures them automatic promotion, knocking Lens out of it.
